This week we are skipping ahead in Genesis a little bit. Why? Well, with kids it's ok sometimes to skip some stories and save them for later. The Bible isn't really a kids book. There are a lot of intense stories and subject matter that just isn't developmentally appropriate for young ages! This story about Joseph does include some hard things, so we aren't totally sugar-coating life for our kids, we are just waiting on some conversations until they are a little bit older.
So, cue JOSEPH and his colorful coat!
Genesis chapter 37-45, God is with us
Remember God's promise to make Abram a great nation, a huge family? Well, Abram (Abraham) and Sarai (Sarah) had a son! Baby Isaac was born and grew up and had his own kids. He actually had twins, Jacob and Esau. Then, they had kids too! Joseph is one of Jacob's (twelve!!) sons. Actually, Joseph was his favorite.
The story of Joseph is long! So here is the main point for the kids to learn this week.
MAIN IDEA: God is with us like God was with Joseph. Bad things happen and God is still with us! God is with us all the time no matter what!
WONDER: I wonder if it was hard for Joseph to trust God was with him? I wonder if Joseph learned from the hard things he had to go through? What do you think he learned?
I wonder if Joseph had people to talk about things with along the way? I wonder if he ever talked with God?
I wonder what Joseph’s brothers thought about God once they were all together again?
PRAY:
Loving God, help us remember you are always with us, even in the pit!
