Lent Resources

What is Lent?
The season of Lent is the 40 days before Easter when we remember the 40 days Jesus fasted in the desert before his public ministry began. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Maundy Thursday (Sundays are not counted as they are like Little Easters!).
The three main aspects of lent are Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving.
The liturgical color for this season is purple, like Advent, representing preparation or penitence.
Lent means Spring-- It's also the time of year when days are beginning to lengthen.

We hope to provide families, kids, and individuals with resources to enrich the season.

The point of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are not to deprive ourselves (or puff ourselves up). Rather, we aim to deepen our relationship with God in preparation for the celebration of Easter. It's an opportunity to refocus by looking both within and outside ourselves for ways to grow and expand our faith.

The Lent Action cards were created as activities to do on your own or as a family. Cut them out and put into a jar or create a paper chain. They are divided by category, and all are wonderful ideas for Lent.

We also have Illustrated Ministries' Reflections on Prayer for Families but cannot link it here. Contact Susanne for access.
