About Us

Moving forward in faith.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church is a joy-filled community on Skidaway Island in Savannah, Georgia. St. Peter’s welcomes all who seek God or a deeper knowledge of God regardless of where you are in your faith journey.

Our Mission

The Mission of St. Peter's comes from the Book of Common Prayer (p. 855)

What? St. Peter's mission is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.

How? St. Peter's pursues its mission as it prays and worships, proclaims the Gospel, and promotes justice, peace, and love.

About Us

Our Story

For over 30 years, St. Peter's has provided a home of blessing and peace, worship, growth, learning, and community and continues to be a parish home for those wishing to be "anchored in Faith, lifted by Love, and joyous in Spirit."

A core group gathered at a Skidaway Island home in 1989 seeking to build an Episcopal Mission on the island. The eventual purchase and building on 5.3 acres on Westridge Road allowed the dream to come to fruition.

St. Peter's grew from a mission church to a Parish in 1996, establishing a tradition of caring for members and the community while valuing the beauty and majesty of worship in the Anglican tradition. The addition of the Schantz pipe organ in 2003 added to the beauty as music soars within the gothic arches of the church.

Now, after over thirty years of ministry, St. Peter's is setting sail with God to provide a place of intergenerational community, worship, and service. Having navigated staff and clergy changes and a global pandemic, we are determined to move forward in faith and be a place of peace to those who need it most in Savannah.

Our goals and focus are laid out in our Strategic Plan (2020-2023) developed by the parish in 2019.

giving congregation, one that strives to take care of its members as well as the broader community. We know how to throw a great party, eat well and have fun together. We support our youth. We make beautiful music together.

St. Peter's follows the number one teaching of Jesus, to love thy neighbor. We are a community that welcomes all people, regardless of one's specific spiritual path/belief, race, sexual orientation, etc. We are open to new ideas and trying new things.

If you are coming to the Episcopal Church from another tradition, you may find some of our customs unfamiliar. Our services are participatory and "liturgical," meaning we worship using a set of texts which are found in the Bible and The Book of Common Prayer, 1979. Most hymns are from The Hymnal 1982. These services both tell a story and act it out. The liturgy draws us into the story through the use of all the senses--beautiful, dignified, and invariably human. Do not be afraid of making a "mistake."

What goes on in the church is so much more than Sunday morning. We come together to worship God, but we are also called to be part of the community that meets for support, friendship, and fun for ourselves and in the service of others.
